Nancy Burgess is a visual artist who lives and works in Vermont. Her work is a combination of painting and sculpture. She creates the background of her work by building up, in relief, a sculpted surface. This surface is her “canvas,” on which she paints. Each work is meticulously sculpted and painted in oil using traditional painting methods. The final result is a unique work of art, unlike any other. Pieces are framed in shadow boxes, creating a stage-set effect.
Historical homes, local barns, and sugar shacks capture her imagination, echoing the iconic architecture in the landscape of New England and Vermont. Nancy is a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology where she studied painting and graphic design. Her work is represented in American and European collections.
